Leather has the same properties as human skin, in that it
has pores and must be kept clean at all times. If you do not clean
and condition your leather furniture or car seats, they will eventually
dry out and commence cracking. Once this begins, the leather will continue
to deteriorate.
Should your leather furniture or car seats be dirty already or they have
commenced drying out, it is not too late to stop deterioration if you
commence conditioning them now. When people purchase leather
furniture, they are often told to wash it down with soapy water.
This is not the correct thing to do for long term leather lounge or
car seat care. It may in fact be harming the leather over time.
When cleaning the leather, ensure that a neutral pH value is used to
avoid harmful reactions to the pores of the leather or the furniture's
stitching. Leather furniture must be conditioned in order for it to
stay soft, replenished and protected. It is also essential that
leather lounges or car seats are not sealed when conditioned, as it is
vital that the leather is still allowed to breath.
